Tina Moen Roney began teaching Montessori in 1975. She founded San Juan Montessori in Anacortes in 1983 and has served as the lead teacher and directress for over 36 years. She is certified by the Association Montessori Internationale (AMI).
For decades Ms. Tina has built a loving community at San Juan Montessori for the children, their families, and all of Anacortes.
Mr. Jack is thrilled to be joining San Juan Montessori in the Lead Teacher role this year! As a former Montessori student, Jack resonates deeply with Montessori philosophy, specifically the emphasis on self-directed learning that emerges from the child’s interests and needs. After earning his BA in Philosophy, Jack completed his Montessori Primary certification at Montessori Northwest in Portland, along with a Masters in Montessori Education from Loyola University. He has worked for the past eight years in both Primary and Elementary Montessori classrooms.
As a teacher, Jack enjoys connecting with students, observing how they learn, and adjusting his approach accordingly. He strives to build a structured environment that allows for children’s intrinsic motivation to drive the learning process. He believes that by supporting children in their autonomy and independence we can help bring about the social progress that will lead to a more peaceful and harmonious world.
Outside the classroom Jack enjoys creative outlets such as writing, reading, and playing tabletop games with his friends. Jack's wife Kayla is also a Montessori teacher; they enjoy taking walks in nature, watching the Seattle Mariners, and playing with their Bengal cats Pippin and Spiri.
